Submission Guidelines
Grey Coven Publishing accepts poetry, flash fiction, short stories, and artwork. We ask that all submissions be sent through Submittable during open submission periods. If you send work outside our submission period, we will hold onto it until the next submission period begins.
Anthology Submissions
We only accept submissions through Submittable. Our submissions are free the first week of each month. After that, submissions cost $5. This small fee helps run our publication and compensate our editors for their hard work.
A third person bio with your preferred pronouns is required. No cover letter is necessary.
Your submission should be attached as a .doc or .docx file. Please include your name and type of submission in the header of the document. Include all of your pieces in one attachment.
Tip Jar submissions are available at any time. You may use the tip jar submission option on submittal or you can send 3 - 10 dollars to our venmo @greycovenpublishing. Please note at the top of your document that it is a tip jar submission if you send a tip through our Venmo. Tip jar submissions have a guaranteed faster turn around time: One week instead of 1-2 months.
Poetry Guidelines
Submit 1-5 poems at a time in a single document. Each piece should be on its own page.
Poems should not exceed one page. We prefer 1.15 spacing, Garamond, and 12 point font.
We prefer micro poetry, free verse poetry, or prose poetry. However, we will consider all genres. We prefer poetry that is uncurated. However, posting on social media is fine. If your work has been previously published, you must hold the rights and disclose the original publisher.
Flash Fiction Guidelines
Submit 1-2 flash fiction pieces in a single document. Each piece should be on its own page.
All flash fiction pieces should be under 1,000 words. You may submit work over 1,000 words, but we are much less likely to accept these pieces.
We prefer 1.15 spacing, Garamond, and 12 point font.
We are seeking pieces with a strong narrative, a wow factor, and descriptive language. We love experimental work, send us your wildest stories!
Art Guidelines
We accept up to five pieces of art
Any medium is accepted. Send us your sketches, watercolor, acrylic, photography… anything you create, we want to see it!
Please send your art as a print ready pdf, a jpg, or a png.
Things to Know
Turn around time is generally 1-2 months. Tip Jar submissions receive a guaranteed response within one week.
We take first publishing rights. Upon publication, all rights revert back to the writer.
If this is a reprint, we need to know the original publisher and you must currently hold all rights.
We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
We nominate for Best of Net and the Pushcart Prize
Marginalized voices are prioritized. We support women and LGBTQ+. We pride ourselves on our diversity and will not accept pieces that are racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc.
We are currently a non-paying anthology, but all contributors will receive an ebook copy and a 15% off code for the paperback version.
If you’ve been featured in an anthology, we will do our best to share your future success stories on our Instagram stories. Please reach out with any future publications or success stories so we can celebrate you!
Manuscript Submissions
As of February 2025, we accept full length poetry manuscripts all year (with the exception of December). These submissions must be sent through Submittable. Submissions are free and our turn around time is 1-3 months. If you are accepted, please note it may take 6+ months for your work to be published. Currently, we only accept 2-3 poetry manuscripts per year. As we grow, we hope to increase this number!
Manuscript submissions should be 80-150 pages
We accept .doc and .docx files with at least 11pt font.
Our poetry books are published as 5x8 paperbacks. Please consider how your poems will look in a book this size. This works best for poems with shorter lines or prose poems that do not have specific line breaks (long lines will be broken up by our margins).
We are unable to offer advances at this time, but we do offer cover services through Juniper Hartmann. If you prefer your cover done by someone else, we will cover up to $25 toward the cost of your cover. We provide editing services, expanded distrubution, an isbn, as well as promotion on our page and website at no cost to you.
Compensation for poetry manuscripts is 2 complementary copies and 50% of net sales.
